Symbiosis in evolution, biology and human health

The next Institute of Biology Paris-Seine (IBPS) International Symposium will be held from March 15 to 17, 2017 at the Durand Auditorium (Esclangon Building), on the Jussieu Campus of the Université Pierre-et-Marie-Curie.

It is co-organized by the IBPS and the ICAN Institute.

This symposium will explore and analyze the different symbiosis modes known to date among several species (and specifically among humans), including how the symbiosis strategies and mechanisms have shaped the evolution, and how the various symbiotic organizations act on organisms functioning. The computational biology and modelling approaches which allowed a better understanding of symbiosis will also be presented.

During the three days of the conference, 18 French, European and North-American scientists will present their work in four main sessions:

• Symbiosis in our environment and within several species (gorilla, chimp, worm...) ;
• Symbiotic interactions during the immune response in infectious diseases (malaria, dengue virus...) ;
• Evolution, modelling and biology of symbiosis ;
• The importance of the microbiota in human health (metabolic diseases, neurologic troubles, obesity...).
